Tying the Tungsten Yellow Spot Jig Nymph

Tungsten Jig Yellow Spot Nymph fly tying video

An extremely effective jig nymph. This pattern can be tied in sizes 10-16. This color combination has worked well for us, but the hot spot color can be changed. Especially effective in mid to late summer as yellow mayflies become more active. We tie this pattern with a black nickel tungsten slotted bead, but you can also use gold or silver. In some fisheries, fish that have become wary of gold bead will readily take the same pattern with a black nickel or nickel bead. This fly can be fish by itself or in tandem with another jig nymph. When PMD's or sulphur mayflies are active, try this as the point fly with a yellow soft hackle on a dropper tag 20-24" above. As the jig bounces along the bottom, the soft hackle will undulate simulating an emerging adult. Tied by Ryan Gabert of Dakota Angler & Outfitter.
